Yes, we're a little skeptical too, but Bob Weir and several Furthur counterparts are set to join the the Marin Symphony Orchestra for a one-night benefit performance on May 7, 2011 in San Rafeal, California. The concert was originally slated for October 22, 2010 but was postponed until the Spring.
The show is being billed as "First Fusion: A Symphonic Performance with Bob Weir and Very Special Guests Featuring the Music of the Grateful Dead." Bob Weir will join Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane, Robin Sylvester and Rob Wasserman on-stage for a show that promises improvisational interaction between the band and the orchestra.
It remains to be seen how well the concept will pan out, but it will be hard for deadheads to resist this opportunity to finally catch that orchestral "Terrapin Station" they've always dreamed of.
The performance will raise money for the Marin Symphony education, outreach and performance programs. Tickets are priced between $50.00 and $75.00 and are available through the Marin Center Box Office.
Will Bob Weir and friends be able to pull this off?
