Feds Shut Down MegaUpload.com

Screen_shot_2012-01-19_at_4.36.56_PM.png

Whispers of private messages containing links to soundboards and secret Facebook groups might become increasingly more rare.

Just one day after sites like Wikipedia, Google and even Phish.net went black in protest of anti-piracy bills currently being debated in Congress (PIPA and SOPA), the federal government issued an indictment against popular file-sharing site, Megaupload.com.

Megaupload, which lists producer Swizz Beatz as its CEO (Ed Note: Who STS9 performed with along with Jay-Z in Denver. There's his 'scene' connection. - Nick), is accused of costing coyright holders $500 million according to TIME Magazine and the indictment.

Hopefully they sort all this stuff out before spring tours. But more than likely, we'll all just go to countless other file uploading sites that pop up every day.

Shutting down every file sharing site . . .

Primus to Play Special Benefit Show in NYC

Tickets for the Primus benefit show at the Gramercy Theatre will go on sale this Friday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m. EST in support of Les Claypool’s nephew’s life threatening illness. Little Matthew was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at just two months old and even though the disease was treated when he was baby, he suffered from a relapse that put him back in the hospital for treatment.

All proceeds for this show will go to support Matthew’s families medical bills. Unfortunately not everybody will be able to make it to this very important show, so fans can donate via Matthew's website, too.  Be sure to show your support in any way you can to help this little guy live a long and healthy life.

Primus is on tour in Europe this spring with some scattered dates in Nevada and New York before heading to Summer Camp Music Festival and Wakarusa Music Festival. For complete lineups and ticketing information from all your favorite 2012 festivals, check out our interactive guide. For more information about Primus, check out their official website.

A note from the photographer:

Every year, there are only a few things you can depend on: Christmas, Thanksgiving, and a Thievery Corporation run at the 9:30 Club. It was just night one of three and the crowd was there to party.

This past Wednesday night, nothing would or could hold anyone back from dancing properly and pulling out their wildest moves. Huge hits like "Lebanese Blonde" and "Hearts a Lonely Hunter” had the band and crowd feeding off each other’s immense energy.

Out of all the shows I’ve been to recently, this one had to have had the most experienced and talented dancers. Every female could do a salsa, every man did a skanky reggae jig – it was a blast to walk through the crowd.

At prestigious clubs like this, photographers are only allowed to shoot the first three songs in front of the rail between the crowd and stage. This time around, that rule didn’t exist and I couldn’t have been more thankful.

In classic TC form, they had all the original musicians from their albums present to sing the songs and play the sitar, drums, horns and everything else for our listening and visual pleasure.

It’s a beautiful thing to witness such a successful party and then realize that there were still two more to come.

LCD Soundsystem's Movie "SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS" to Premiere at Sundance

LCD Soundsystem at MSG on April 2nd 2011 - Photo Credit: Holly O'Connor

A little under one year ago, LCD Soundsystem bid adieu to the musical world at Madison Square Garden in one of the most poetic and heartfelt performances myself and anyone else present has ever seen.

The magnificent final concert and events surrounding James Murphy's decision to abolish the band were documented and, of course, made into a movie. Rightfully being called "SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS," the film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this month in Park City, Utah.

According to the movie's official website, it is a "film documenting this once in a life time performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision."

The media hype surrounding LCDSS's last show was astounding and for the fans, the anticipation of that night was even greater. One can only imagine what it all felt like for founder James Murphy, but through "SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS" viewers will get a small glimpse of that.

For tickets to the Sundance Film Festival go to their official website. Watch the official trailer and find showtimes below.

Zach Deputy Announces Winter/Spring Tour

zd_anotherday.jpg

Arguably the hardest working one-man jam band in show business, Zach Deputy, is set to hit the road for a string of East Coast performances with his full backing band, The Funktapuss. Straight off Jam Cruise 10, the usually solo festival favorite will embark on a late winter/early spring tour promoting his latest release, "Another Day."

The singer/songwriter's album was recorded with a full backing band and according to Deputy is all about transformation and change. The upcoming tour will showcase new material, as well as old favorites. The self-proclaimed island-infused/drum and bass/gospel/ninja-soul musician has been gaining a loyal fan base in recent years with relentless touring and festival appearances, while serving up a looped up, one-of a-kind, feel-good dance party.

Check out tracks off of "Another Day" on his official website.
