On the second day of Rock n Roll Resort, attendees started to become more acclimated to this special compound. The physical building is a rare form, built in the 1930s. The atmosphere indoors is extraordinary. Around each corner there is something to comment on – a large glass chandelier above a grand piano, roof decks that overlook a mystical miniature golf course and vintage décor that is plucked from another era.

As we waited for his set, OTT remarked on the eeriness of the resort.

“What would it be like if tomorrow every person in the building disappeared but all their things and the building stayed just how it is?”

His answer: “It would be like “The twilight Zone.”

This would be a common topic of conversation throughout the weekend.

While on stage OTT quickly mumbled, “This place reminds me of a Stephen King novel. Bye.”

The vibe on Saturday seemed to be all about chemistry. To instigate that vibe was the Viral Sound, a group that utilized experimentation across genres, cooperative and smooth collaboration and a unique brand of funk that never gets old. Their fans are also incredibly loyal for an up-and-coming act.

I had heard from many that they were looking forward to seeing the unique on-stage chemistry that occurs between Conspirator’s Marc Brownstein and Chris Michetti. Bobbing their heads in singular rhythm and smiling at one another throughout the set, their high comfort level was undeniably obvious.

Many, including myself, have had my reservations toward Conspirator being diehard Biscuits fans, but it’s time to bury the hatchet because they played excellently and above all had a great time on stage with one another.

Dopapod’s first set of the weekend took place at 3:30 a.m. after only arriving at the resort a few hours earlier on little sleep. It would have been understandable if the band had taken it easy on the crowd and prepared everyone to wind down in the early morning, but that certainly wasn’t the case.

By the end of the set (5:00 a.m.) the crowd was begging, for more. Talented guitarist Rob Compa stood out strong last night with some infectious grooving and surprising peaks that snuck up on you.

To conclude this snapshot of the chemistry that was Saturday at Rock n Roll Resort is a simple and beautiful identification stated by painter Alex Grey in the beginning of the evening:

“This is the gathering of a rare tribe,” he said.
