The Hangout Beach, Arts and Music Festival had the audacity to keep many of us awake into the wee hours of Monday night with the initial announcement of their 2012 lineup, and they did so with plenty of their own flavor.
The Hangout unveiled the lineup by way of a previously announced "live event," via their Facebook, starting at midnight. As the clock struck 12:00, the first chapter in their storybook approach began as page after page of YouTube clips appeared, followed by photos featuring the names of performers.
This unique approach to an old process made for an eventful night for those wondering who would stand alongside Jack White, the only previously announced headliner. Dave Matthews Band, String Cheese Incident (2 sets), Wilco, STS9, Skrillex and the Flaming Lips (performing Dark Side of the Moon) took the top spots on the bill, but as was the case with last year's lineup, The Hangout came on strong with under-card artists.

The Hangout's lineup tends to be varied in order to guarantee at least one phenomenal performance for everyone over the three-day beach party. And it seems this year will be just as diverse with the likes of Dispatch, Steve Winwood, Chris Cornell, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Flogging Molly, Tribal Seeds, Paul Oakenfold, G. Love and Special Sauce, The Lumineers, Alabama Shakes, Shpongle, Dr. Dog, M.Ward, Paper Diamond, Archnemesis, Rebelution and Randy Newman all playing together on the same grounds.
Although Hangout is still in its infancy heading into year three, this May 18 to 20 down on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama should be even better. Peep Headstash Magazine's review of last year's Hangout last year for insight into the unique festival.
The final message posted stated that one more headliner as well as additional artists would be announced this week, so stay tuned for updates and visit their official website for ticketing and travel information.
See you on the beach!
