Legendary Georgia jamband Widespread Panic will be coming to Austin, TX this March to make their first-ever appearance at the South by Southwest Music Festival. Considering that the jam rockers and SXSW are both celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, ACL Series Executive Producer Terry Lickona said the pairing was a "no-brainer."
Panic will bring their talents to the live music capital of the world on March 17 at the freshly constructed Moody Theater, the new home of Austin City Limits Live. Since its inception in 1976, ACL Live has become the longest-running concert music program in America. Until recently, the program was taped live on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
The showcase also features performances by New Orleans legends Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the ever-funky quartet from across the pond The New Mastersounds and a special early St. Paddy's Day set with SXSW Music Keynote Speaker Bob Geldof.
It appears as if those rumors for a 2012 WSP hiatus are gaining more validity as the band has strung together a slew of special performances throughout the South much like this one. The band has also already announced appearances at Wanee, Summer Camp and Hangout Festivals and I wouldn't be surprised if they make another appearance at Austin City Limits Festival in September as they haven't been since they were one of the headliners back in 2005.
If you're wanting to get your dose of Panic before it's too late check out their dates below and as always, keep jammin. Check out Widespread Panic tour dates here.
