Umphrey's McGee, Papadosio, Amon Tobin and More Headline Wakarusa's Second Artist Announcement

Earlier today, Wakarusa unveiled their second of three artist announcements, bringing some of the biggest and best names in psychedelic rock, dance, reggae, bluegrass, EDM and electronica together for four magical days in the Ozarks.

Prog/jam rock heroes Umphrey’s McGee, world-class DJs Amon Tobin, Gramatik and Emancipator, indie-roots-rock trio Dispatch, festival circuit faves Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, psychedelic dance rockers The Werks and Papadosio, and psybient icons Shpongle (presenting The Masquerade) headline the announcement, with plenty of support behind them.

They join the dozens of other acts announced last week, including Widespread Panic (who recently announced their comeback tour following Panic en la Playa 2 in the Dominican Republic later this month), Yonder Mountain String Band, Zeds Dead, RJD2, SAVOY, ZOOGMA, The Polish Ambassador, The Motet, Cherub and many more.

One of the most popular festivals in the country – often called “the best festival on land” by some veteran festival-goers – Wakarusa will return for its 10th year overall, and it’s fifth at Mulberry Mountain in Arkansas, from May 30 to June 2, 2013. In addition to the usual activities common at many festivals, including live artist installations and disk golf, Wakarusa’s idyllic surroundings provide opportunities for fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and rafting, along with fun-packed extras like a ferris wheel and a giant water slide.

As the saying goes, “Always leave them wanting more…”and Wakarusa did just that, as they will release the third installment of their artist announcements next Thursday, January 17, at 10:00am CT.

You can view the official Wakarusa 2013 preview video here:

A host of VIP and General Admission tickets are on sale now at Wakarusa’s ticketing page, with two- and three-day passes available beginning in February.

The BUKU Project Announces Initial Lineup

The 2nd annual BUKU Music + Arts Festival just announced their initial 2013 lineup, and the fest will bring a wild mix of EDM, electronica, hip hop and funk to New Orleans in March.

BUKU will have three stages of music and will host a slew of varied musical heavyweights from around the world. Some of the hottest names in electronica (STS9, Big Gigantic, Break Science, Nero), hip hop (Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar), Rock (Primus in 3D, Passion Pit, Best Coast), and the DJ/EDM scene (Calvin Harris, Dillon Francis, Datsik, Major Lazer, Flux Pavilion) will congregate in the Crescent City on March 8 and 9. And of course, no fest in NOLA would be complete without some funk, and Lettuce will be happy to oblige.

More bands are slated to be announced in the coming months, and tickets go on sale Friday, December 7 at 12ET. General admission tickets start at less than $130, with VIP at $300 and Too BUKU VIP Group passes starting at $900 for 2.

The Grateful Dead, Dogfish Head Brewery to Release "American Beauty" Beer

American Beauty

We can share the women, we can share the… beer?

It would seem so as The Grateful Dead have announced plans to collaborate with Dogfish Head, the famed Milton, Delaware based microbrewery, on a new beer dubbed "American Beauty.” The new brew is described as “a strong pale ale with all-American hops and barley."

"We've looked for a long while for the perfect brewery to team up with for a Grateful Dead-inspired brew, and feel we've finally found the right fit,” explained David Lemieux, the Grateful Dead's legacy manager, in an official statement. “Aside from Dogfish's history with music-themed brews, we love their beer, and think it's the best around. Plus, these are really good people and are the type of folks we want to work with."

"American Beauty" isn't Dogfish Head’s first sonically inspired brew. The microbrewery has also produced "Faithfull," a Belgian-style golden ale which commemorated the 20th anniversary of Pearl Jam's formation and its debut album, "Ten,” along with the Miles Davis inspired "Bitches Brew," and "Hellhound," which flirts with ethereal legend of infamous Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson.

Appropriately, Dogfish Head will pay homage to the cherished tradition of collaboration between the Dead and their fans. Dead Heads have been asked to send in suggestions for the final, special ingredient inspired by their experiences with the band.

Dogfish Founder and President Sam Calagione speaks from experience.

"My wife, Mariah, and I went to our first Dead show together in the summer of '91," said Calagione, "and I've been listening to Workingman's Dead and Shakedown Street, two of the earliest albums I ever owned, on my morning kayak trips. It’s amazing how timeless those albums are."

Fans can submit their ingredients online until December, at which point the brewery and band will pick the ingredient – and story – that best fits the new brew.

So when can you expect to tap the first keg of "American Beauty?" The pale ale is expected to be released through the 27-states Dogfish distributes to in October of 2013.
