This past December in USA Today, Moby, DJ Scott Henry and "Billboard’s" Keith Caulfield named the top 5 “up-and-comers” in the electronic music scene. Their list included Deadmau5, Pretty Lights, Afrojack, Calvin Harris and Kaskade. *Yawn.* In other news, water is wet and fire is hot.
We got in touch with The Disco Biscuits’ and Conspirator’s Marc Brownstein to get some real insight into the scene from someone who actually has his finger on the pulse of what’s next.
Let’s face it: even Eminem said Moby was irrelevant . . . and that was back in 2002 (though he’s probably eating his words now about the genre itself – everybody’s listening to techno.)
So check out what Brownie had to say about five up-and-coming electronic acts ready to break through. Don't forget to check out Conspirator as they embark on their expansive 2012 tour. For a complete list of dates, scroll down or visit their official website.

“The thing that I like about Mord Fustang is that he has a very nice sense of melody and changes within his electro-house bangers,” Brownie said. “This guy is growing so fast that by the time this hits print, Mord will likely no longer be considered up-and-coming.”
Mord Fustang is about to launch into an ambitious late winter/early spring tour with 14 shows left in February and 19 shows in March, you’ll have plenty of time to catch him.
“He’s growing at a record pace in the arena of live shows, having just started touring the States recently and already getting ready to headline such prestigious rooms as the Best Buy Theater in New York City,” Brownie added. “And that’s only four months after opening for the Biscuits in that same room. The Magician

“When The Magician split off from Aeroplane to start his own thing, I pretty much stopped hearing about Aeroplane and started hearing about The Magician,” Brownie said. “With almost 20,000 followers on SoundCloud, The Magician is pumping out his Magic Tape series with amazing regularity – nu-disco mixes that are being gobbled up by his loyal legions of followers.”
It’s not hard to see where much of the Aeroplane’s magic came from.
“In many years, I've explored so many genre of music,” The Magician told Headstash Magazine in an interview last year. “I’ve been really into pop music for three years and I think it’s going to stay like that for the next five years but always with a dance touch.” [Facebook]
Big Gigantic

“Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken straddle the line between being DJs and a being a band – a hybrid that is beginning to be hugely popular,” he said. “Their set is filled with amazingly detailed tracks and their show is complemented nicely by incredible musicianship.”
Dom’s smooth sax is one of the most unmistakable and refreshing sounds in the scene today. The duo just dropped a new album, “Nocturnal” that rose up the iTunes electronic charts, peaking at number two. [Facebook]
Alpha Data
Alpha Data (real name James Risvedt) is a producer from Minneapolis, Minnesota that Brownie discovered on Facebook.
“I get lots of demos over the course of the year, but this one stood out,” he said. “So much so that I immediately contacted James and asked if he wanted to work with me.”
Alpha Data’s youthfully unique brand of glitch-hop is currently creating buzz all around the Internet and his first EP, “Nefertiti,” reached #1 on the Beatport Glitch-Hop charts for weeks. He also opened for The Biscuits along with Tipper over the New Year’s run.
In an interview with Headstash Magazine late last year, Risvedt channeled a “Happy Gilmore” quote in talking about having fun on stage.
“I think it’s a reciprocal thing,” he said. “The more fun I have, the more fun it is to watch me, so the crowd has more fun, which means I have more fun. It’s like a carousel. It goes up and down, and around. [Facebook]
Michetti
“While we’re on the subject of producers I’ve been working with this year, the conversation is not complete without mentioning Michetti,” Brownie said. “While you are all familiar with him from his work with RAQ and Conspirator, what you may not know is that he is a ridiculously talented producer.”
Brownie’s co-Conspirator and partner in crime, Chris Michetti is said to have remarkable control of Ableton and a distinguishing array of tones and bass bombs that he drops on unsuspecting listeners without warning.
“Having watched him wow the crowd when opening for Borgore recently, what I have suspected would be true indeed is: Put Michetti in front of a large crowd of kids who love hard dubstep and you have a match made in heaven.” [Facebook]
