Bonnaroo 2012 Announces Daily Schedule

397800_10150520133665906_7891635905_9209371_1364686628_n.jpg

With the amount of bands that perform at Bonnaroo, it's always an exciting day when they drop the festival's daily schedule. The 11th annual festival, taking place June 7 to 10 in Manchester, Tennessee, has Phish closing out the event on Sunday night with a four-hour slot, headlining spots from Radiohead and The Red Hot Chili Peppers and late-night performances by Big Gigantic and Umphrey's McGee.

Their jam-packed lin-up leaves no room for downtime - in fact, the festival usually has the opposite problem with many popular bands playing at the same time.

Music starts at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with SOJA, Alabama Shakes, Orgone, MiM0SA and Big Gigantic slated to play.

Friday's music includes a mid-day set from The Infamous Stringdusters and afternoon/early-evening sets from The Avett Brothers, Fitz and The Tantrums, Feist, Rodirigo y Gabriela and C.U.B.A. Radiohead will play from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Festivalgoers will have to choose between late-night sets by Umphreys McGee and Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk

Saturday night is packed with sets from The Roots, Dispatch and The Chili Peppers with Skrillex handling late-night duties from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.

Sunday's music continues on for most of the day with with Ben Folds Five, Bon Iver and The Shins playing until 8:00 p.m. when everything stops and Phish controls the event until midnight.

Tickets are on sale now for $259.50 for a GA pass. Check out the our previous News Nug for the complete lineup and more details or visit Bonnaroo's official website for the full band-by-band schedule.

Phish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead Set To Headline Bonnaroo 2012

397800_10150520133665906_7891635905_9209371_1364686628_n.jpg

The festival that really started it all over a decade ago has just announced their hotly anticipated initial lineup including two sets of preeminent jam band Phish, future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Red Hot Chili Peppers and British rockers Radiohead.

Entering its 11th year and taking place June 7 to 10 at the usual spot in Manchester, Tennessee, Bonnaroo will also feature an eclectic undercard, containing the best in hip-hop, bluegrass, jam, rock and electronica music. What started as a grassroots jam band festival has morphed into the biggest and maybe most mainstream event around.

Joining the headliners are recent Grammy winner Bon Iver, The Avett Brothers, Umphrey's McGee, Big Gigantic, Skrillex, Ludacris, Foster The People, The Beach Boys and The Shins. Scroll down for the complete lineup.

Tickets will be on sale soon at Price Level 3 for $234.50 plus fees. Last year, tickets went extremely fast so buy them as soon as they're available before the prices increase or sell out entirely. For news, activities and volunteer information, visit the festival's official website.

Last year's event was highlighted by a late-night Pretty Lights set that went until the sun came up, a rousing "Circus" from STS9 during the twilight hours and impassioned performances by Eminem and Arcade Fire. Read Headstash Magazine's comprehensive review of all four days.

Bonnaroo Book: What, Which, This, That, The Other

roo

The festival Goliath known as Bonnaroo has announced the arrival of the first and only official book documenting the decade-old fest. Superfly Presents, A.C. Entertainment and publisher Abrams Image are proud to present, "Bonnaroo: What, Which, This, That, The Other."

The book contains over 400 photos documenting the last ten years of one of the nation's biggest and most preeminent music festivals. Gracing the pages are shots from some of the best photogs in the game today, including Danny Clinch, C. Taylor Crothers, Jeff Kravitz and Ryan Mastro, among others.

Bonnaroo veteran Alan Light, a regular contributor to the New York Times and Rolling Stone will be featured as an essayist. "Bonnaroo: What, Which, This, That, The Other" provides insight into the personal experience of Bonnaroo fans, staff, comedians and musicians alike.

The book was designed by the National Forest Design Firm and will be in stores nationwide on  April 1, 2012. The 11th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is scheduled for June 7 to 10, 2012 in Manchester, TN. To check out more info or to pre-order book visit the festival's official website. The lineup should be announced within the next few weeks.

Weather

Not surprisingly, hot and dry. A little rain on Saturday but not enough to stop anybodies party.

Five Highlights

STS9 Sunrise "Circus." Great way to end Saturday's festivities with one of Sound Tribe's most beautiful songs in a gorgeous setting. Goosebumps.

Buffalo Springfield. Didn't know what to expect but was not disappointed. Neil Young may have some years on the rest of the artists at Bonnaroo, but he reminded everyone age is just a number with a rocking set.

MiniBoone. It was their first time playing at Bonnaroo and you could tell they were super excited and it definitely translated into the performance with a lot of energy and goofiness that was fun to watch. I am not usually into indie rock or whatever you want to classify it as, but they definitely walked away with a ton of new fans.

Pretty Lights. Premiered his new set for the summer. Let's just say that America should get ready for some reworked songs that do not disappoint. Could Derek Vincent Smith actually be getting bigger and better?

The 30-foot Water Slide. Definitely a lot of fun. Had to get there early, though, because of all the dirty hippies (myself included). A cheap (and necessary) way to cool off.

One Lowlight

Not surprisingly, the size. Walking around was rough and trips to the campsite to re-fuel (beer-wise) had to be made sparingly. With a lineup the size of Bonnaroo, you have to make some tough choices both musically and otherwise.

Also, though I wasn't aware of it at the festival, the fact that at least two people died on the grounds is senseless and sobering. Most people seemed to be partying responsibly and keeping hydrated. It's truly a tragedy that people died at Bonnaroo.

Three Surprises

Feeding off the Heat. I was surprised by the ability of attendees to disregard the heat and still have the energy to have as much fun as it seemed everyone was having.

Strength in Numbers. Despite the incredible attendance numbers, it didn't seem as crowded as you'd think. With so many shows at one time, all the stages and tents provided ample room to move around and space to cut a rug.

Dusty Trails. The amount of dust that went down my shower drain when I got home. I even showered at the festival but my bathroom could have been the scene for a Swamp Thing monster movie Monday morning.

Atmosphere

The demographics changed as the days got later. The younger people stuck around the festival into the wee hours of the morning while the older people seemed to come for a few headliners and fade away with the sun.

During the day, most people just listened to the music because it was so damn hot, but as it got cooler, people put their rage faces on and boogied down.

Funny Quotes

I overheard a few girls talking about how they wanted to marry Neil Young. I'm sure he would have loved to hear that.
