When the dust settled on Day 1 of Camp Bisco 2012, everything could be summed up by one word: basis. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it pop up in one or two more sets over the weekend. When The Disco Biscuits start the show off with monster standalone version of a song, you know you’re in for it.

Starting it off with “Save the Robots,” The Biscuits jumped into Camp headfirst. The whole production this year has been amped up. From movers to lasers to LED screens, the seamless combination of lights and video content proved to be top-notch, yet again. Those guys really know what they are doing.

As always, the dynamics of the lasers seemed to make you feel was as if you were in a grand indoor auditorium. The way the lights and lasers box you in and create the feeling that you are in a cage is wild.

As they toyed with the intro to “Basis for a Day,” I kept hearing teases of other songs like “And The Ladies Were The Rest Of The Night” as well a brief “Highwire” tease before they finally dropped into the oh-so-coveted vocal section of “Basis.” If you ever take the time to look around – especially at Camp – take note: that is what band/crowd interactions is all about. From this point on, it was pure Bisco gold in the raw.

Out of “Basis” they dropped into a twisted “Little Betty Boop” fake-out, which had the crowd absolutely bouncing. Segueing right along, they shifted gears to finish the “Mindless Dribble” which had been left unfinished on The Road To Camp Bisco. Out of “Dribble,” they effortlessly dropped into the middle “Blissco” section of “Aceetobee.” Always such an uplifting riff.

The shenanigans were far from over as Bisco dropped back into “Basis For A Day,” sending the Bisconauts into an absolute frenzy. The only sloppy moment was the drop into “42,” which was really forced. One last blast of energy came from the super patient, high-energy peak of the end of “Helicopters.” Not many bands can kick their party quite like The Biscuits do.

As far as other music goes, I moseyed on over to the Main Stage and got down to some booty-shaking funk nastiness that is Kung Fu. Todd Stoops is a wizard on the keys – gotta love it.

Next up, New York scenesters Rubblebucket brought their psychedelic-laden dance grooves, awesome stage shenanigans and sexy female vocalists. They really know how to set the vibe and everyone had a blast.

As for the late-nights, Camp Bisco all-stars Orchard Lounge delivered an awesome performance in the smaller of the two dance tents, featuring some rare dubstep that the loyal, hardcore fans were a bit confused by.

From here, we wandered to the Big Dance tent to catch Zedd and Porter Robinson.  I like the fact that the big dance tent seems to be a bit more spacious last year. Zedd’s remix of the theme from the “Zelda” video game series was a huge highlight.

Lastly, and most importantly, Wyllys brought the house down. The Silent Disco is the truth when you are holding it down with 20 of your best friends. The vibes were thick and people were boogying hard. Wade always kills it with the 80s nu-disco funk. I left the Silent Disco unable to get the lyrics “Cocaine, running around my brain” out of my dome.

Day 2 will bring Big Boi, Amon Tobin, Lotus, Eliot Lipp live band and of course, two sets of The Disco Biscuits. Stay tuned to Headstash for more coverage from Mariaville, NY and check out Camp Bisco’s official website for more information.
